TexxaStar FAQsQuestion: How do I know if I can get TexxaStar at my location? Answer: You may be able to visibly locate one of our radio towers - if so, you can definitely get TexxaStar. Or, just write or call. A quick site site survey can usually be performed to verify signal presence. Question: How far can TexxaStar reach? Answer: There are many variables involved with microwave radio reception. In general, assuming good line-of-sight and proper equipment, you may be able to "see" TexxaStar from as far as 15 miles away. There are very few locations with 15-mile views, however - most of our towers will serve customers within a 4-5 mile radius. Question: Is this broadband Internet? Answer: Yes, it is, and in the truest sense. While wireless data networking has limitations, it is largely unfettered by the inefficiencies of traditional copper wiring. In this regard, wireless Internet access is the future, and wireline access from the telcos and cable TV is considered "old" technology. Question: How fast is TexxaStar? Answer: That's a question without a definite answer. Although the ultimate possible speed your connection can achieve is largely limited by your radio equipment, we expect the average user to experience at least 1 Mb/s upload and download under normal conditions. Most of the time, these speeds will be higher. We have observed upload/download speeds well in excess of 6 Mb/s in closed-network testing using the standard level customer radio gear. Throughput of 30 Mb/s or more are possible with higher-end customer radio equipment, and custom solutions are available for those that require bandwidth in excess of 45 Mb/s. Question: What equipment do I need on my end? Answer: A wireless radio unit and its associated parts and a PC are all that's required. The PC should have an Ethernet adapter installed, or we can install one for you if needed. The radio unit is mounted outdoors, and a single, small cable enters your building. Thanks to its considered design, the outdoor unit introduces little or no risk of lightning or other weather-related damage. The outdoor unit can be mounted on practically any surface or pole without damaging the structure. Question: I used to have another wireless ISP. Can I use my old radio with TexxaStar? Answer: Chances are, yes. Please call or write so what we can verify your equipment and its comapatibility with TexxaStar. Question: Can I use my IP Telephone service with TexxaStar? Answer: Yes! One of the main design considerations of TexxaStar is that it be capable of carrying Voice-Over-IP traffic. With TexxaStar and your choice of alternative telephone service providers, you can literally "turn off" your old, antiquated phone company and enjoy the benefits of going wireless! Question: What about games? Answer: Most games should perform very well on TexxaStar, but do understand that games are not included in our testing methodology. Question: I have a business in Kerrville and I live in Ingram. Sometimes I have to stay home, but I want to get into my PC at the office or monitor my employees while I'm not there. Can TexxaStar do this? Answer: Absolutely. This was another major design consideration in our basic network planning. Video surveillance is one of the most-requested special services we have encountered. Question: My area doesn't seem to be covered right now. When will TexxaStar be available to me? Answer: We need for you to let us know where you are so we can gauge where the demand is. Just call or send an E-Mail with your name, phone, and exact physical location, and we can better evaluate our options for getting service to you. If you have neighbors that are interested, please have them inquire as well. Question:Is TexxaStar secure? Answer: Compared to cable or certain competitor's ADSL implementations, TexxaStar is highly secure. Like Texxa's ADSL network, extra design emphasis was placed on data security at all points between Texxa and the user. TexxaStar goes several steps further with 128-bit data encryption, strict user authentication methods, and complete support for all IP protocols and services, such as VPNs and tunneling. TexxaStar is without question the most secure network in the area. Please call or write today to learn more about what Texxa can do for you! |
